Resting for the night in Palmerton, PA – the mountains around this town are barren, stripped from zinc mining. Not an incredible backdrop. Beginning after Port Clinton, you encounter periods of rock. Not as bad as many make out, however after hiking so many miles the feet are a little sensitive to them. The mountain laurel are blooming everywhere – very beautiful. Two days until NJ – feel good to hike on my home turf.

In the town of Delaware Water Gap, PA – entering NJ tomorrow. Every Thursday the church has a meal for hikers. Members make a pot luck and we dig in – wonderful.

Hiked into beautiful NJ. Nice pic of me at Sunfish Pond. My nicest night yet. Camped on top of Rattlesnake Mountain and had another bear encounter.
